Proactive Pharmacy Care: This year, every industry is reacting to the state of the economy. Cost-cutting methods are needed in every area, including pharmacy benefits. At CVS Caremark, we’ve been building services with short-term and long-term cost savings opportunities that can be combined or customized to meet your needs, especially your need for affordability and value. Even in this economy, it’s possible to achieve Best-in-Class results, and CVS Caremark can help show you how.

Our total approach at CVS Caremark is Proactive Pharmacy Care. Proactive Pharmacy Care focuses on earlier, easier and more effective engagement of plan participants in behaviors that lower costs and improve health.

We want to show you what’s possible with Proactive Pharmacy Care and put together a pharmacy benefit plan that works for you. We’re all aware of the rising cost of health care. In the next nine years, it’s expected to double. At the heart of this are unengaged plan participants. In fact, a recent “Center for Health System Change” study showed that Only 41% of participants being engaged is bad for their health and your costs. Half of their health risk is determined by their behaviors and lifestyle choices.  We’ve shifted cost as far as it will go, which is why we’re focused on helping you to shift behavior changes of your members within the pharmacy benefit.

Generic Substitution: There are now generic medications available in nearly every highly-utilized therapeutic class. The benefit to you, is that on average, for each 1% increase in a plan’s Generic Dispensing Rate, a plan sponsor's gross pharmacy spend is estimated to decrease by 1%. To encourage the use of generic therapies we can assist you with plan design consultation to make sure the spread between the generic copay and the brand copay is wide enough to encourage members to choose generics over brands.

Maintenance Choice:  As a CVS Caremark plan sponsor, you are provided with greater discounts on medications through mail-order service. Now we can offer plan sponsors the cost savings of mail plus the personal choice of mail or retail through our Maintenance Choice program. With Maintenance Choice, you have an opportunity to give your members the ability to choose which delivery channel works best for them while still experiencing the same low cost savings of 90-day supply of maintenance medications.

At a CVS/pharmacy members may:

  • Pick-up a 90-day supply of medication directly from the pharmacy at a time that is convenient
  • Enjoy same-day prescription availability
  • Talk face-to-face with a pharmacist
